Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise will officially open its highly anticipated indoor-outdoor thermal wellness destination, BASIN Glacial Waters, on September 15, 2025.
A Canadian Rockies wellness retreat
Set beside the iconic Victoria Glacier and Lake Louise, BASIN combines Nordic-inspired sauna culture with modern, nature-integrated design by acclaimed architect Matteo Thun. The calming space features immersive thermal circuits, contrast bathing, and visual serenity across multiple heat, water, and relaxation zones.
“Capturing the spirit of Lake Louise was at the heart of the architectural intention,” said Matteo Thun. “Nature and the beautiful surroundings of the lake and the forest become the protagonist – architecture and interior the stage.”
Thermal circuits, saunas, ice mists, and signature rituals
Guests will move through a self-directed sequence of hot and cold therapies including:
- Finnish, Bio, and Aufguss Saunas
- Steam rooms and hot-stone massage room
- Himalayan Salt Relax Room
- Reflexology and Kneipp Walk pools
- Outdoor infinity pool with glacier views
Signature “Wellness Trails” guide guests toward individualized outcomes such as stillness, presence, or renewal. Meanwhile, the Aufguss Ceremony, led by expert sauna masters, features aromatic infused steam sessions performed with theatrical choreography in the outdoor sauna.
“Wellness at Fairmont has always been about meaningful experiences,” said Emma Darby, Global Vice President Spa & Wellness at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. “BASIN represents an evolution of this. It’s an intentional and immersive space where guests can slow down and feel genuinely restored.”
Elevated alpine design and lake views
The retreat will also feature the Glacier Lounge, offering fresh food, wellness elixirs, and handcrafted beverages – including Champagne for those celebrating the moment. Every space is designed to encourage both introspection and quiet connection, shaped around panoramic lake perspectives and natural materials.
“BASIN signifies the completion of a $130MM transformation at the resort,” said Tracy Lowe, General Manager of Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. “It’s the beginning of a new chapter for our historic hotel.”
Alongside the spa, wellness-themed retreat packages include group forest bathing, alpine meditation walks, and cold plunges in Lake Louise paired with guided breathwork.
