Sandals Resorts International and AFC Ajax are extending their Future Goals program through 2028 to continue inspiring Curaçao’s youth with soccer and sustainability.
A winning combination of sport and sustainability
Launched in 2022, the Future Goals initiative transforms plastic waste and lost fishing nets from the ocean into sustainable soccer goals for primary schools across Curaçao. Over 70 goalposts have been made by local recycling partner Limpi Recycling and distributed island-wide.
Beyond equipment, the program offers an eight-week curriculum led by local Future Coaches trained by AFC Ajax that blends soccer training with lessons on creativity, resilience, and environmental care.
Growing impact on communities and the environment
The program has removed more than 1.4 million plastic bottles and caps, and over 3,000 square feet of discarded fishing nets from Curaçao’s seas and communities. Sustainable soccer gear and educational kits have been provided to most primary schools on the island.
The expanded efforts will include island-wide clean-ups, inter-school tournaments, and the Plastic Art Challenge to motivate students to protect the environment.
